Family tree 'Frank' Tempranillo 2012
Made exclusively for Familytree Wine Club members, these wines are named after people in our family trees. They are very unique wines made as a "one off" from carefully selected batches of fruit and only made in great vintages. Only available from the winery, these wines will be different from vintage to vintage and stocks are very limited.
Elizabeth Towner [nee Clarke] recalls her family remembering her brave uncle, Lieutenant Frank Lionel CLARKE, who was killed in action while serving in the Second World War, at just 32 years of age. In the Middle East where Frank bravely fought and died for his country, Tempranillo is considered as the king of all grape varieties. Just before harvest in 2012, a small but excellent batch of Tempranillo became available, just a few miles south of where Frank was born in 1908.
So with these two regional links, it was not only significant, but decorous that this wine was named after Frank.
Deep red in colour with a purple red hue. Stunning aromas of chocolate, dried dates, cocoa, redskin lollies, black cherry and mulberry. Expressive mid-palate fruit flavours of black fruits with fine upfront tannins giving a dry finish. Matured in true Spanish style using old 300l hogs heads, this wine will fill out while the tannins soften over the next couple of years.
100 % Tempranillo.
Medium term cellaring of 2 - 5 years.
