Flametree Margaret River Shiraz 2011
This Margaret River Shiraz is a mix of 5 vineyards. These vineyards are in three different Margaret River sub regions, Wallcliffe, Wilyabrup and Yallingup. The Wallcliffe vineyard show pepper and spice whilst the vineyards further north show more dark fruits and concentrated fruit flavours. These vineyards are planted on gravel and have a history of growing moderate crops with good fruit concentration. Open and static fermenters were used in the fermentation, we give Shiraz ferments plenty of air. After up to 7 days cold soak the batches are inoculated with selected Rhone yeast strains. The wines were inoculated for MLF, pressed off and then transferred into used French and American oak barrels for 12 months maturation.
Lifted blueberry, plums, liquorice and spice combine to create a soft fruit driven Shiraz style. The colour and perfume are testament to a fantastic Shiraz vintage. Soft extraction techniques using open fermenters has resulted in a wine with ripe fruit flavours and fine tannin structure. The palate has plenty of sweet dark fruits and spicy oak flavours. Aged in older barrels to keep the oak influence in the back ground and the fruit flavours as the star of the show. A great first up Margaret River Shiraz for Flametree. Enjoy over the next few years.
